Musings of a Fairydoll - Colors of Spring Edition đ§đ»

The Pantone Colors of the yearâŠ.
Have you ever watched âThe Devil Wears Pradaâ and heard Meryl Streepâs (Miranda Priestly) speech about the color blue? Her exact quote isâŠ.
(Begin Quote)âThis âstuffâ? Oh, okay. I see. You think this has nothing to do with youâ
You go to your closet and you select out, oh I donât know, that lumpy blue sweater, for instance, because youâre trying to tell the world that you take yourself too seriously to care about what you put on your back. But what you donât know is that, that sweater is not just blue, itâs not turquoise, itâs not lapis, itâs actually cerulean.
Youâre also blithely unaware of the fact that in 2002, Oscar de la Renta did a collection of cerulean gowns. And then I think it was Yves St Laurent, wasnât it, who showed cerulean military jackets? And then cerulean quickly showed up in the collections of eight different designers. Then it filtered down through the department stores and then trickled on down into some tragic âcasual cornerâ where you, no doubt, fished it out of some clearance bin. However, that blue represents millions of dollars and countless jobs and so itâs sort of comical how you think that youâve made a choice that exempts you from the fashion industry when, in fact, youâre wearing the sweater that was selected for you by the people in this room. From a pile of âstuff.â (End quote)
For whatever reason, this exact line is when I learned that so much work goes into creating our clothing, even down to the colors! That was when I realized I was in the wrong career for me, but I didnât know how to put it all on paper. See, âThe Devil Wears Pradaâ came out way before the internet was a big thing (like it is now). There were no true resources to research, etcâŠI truly thought that going in that type of career was too late for me, a pipe dream, etcâŠ.
I majored in Criminal Justice and Criminology with a minor in Business Administration and that was so different than where I belonged. Youth is truly wasted on the young! Â I was majoring in something that I knew would always be there and that I could easily get a job. Â Neglecting, or perhaps not knowing, the importance of having happiness and passion in your work. Â Owning my own business never crossed my mind. In fact, I had many offers to open my own business, but didnât understand what I needed to do or that, that was my true path.
Anyway, back to the Pantone Colors of the year (since this is what this particular piece is on, not me). 2022âs colors are bright and cheery (much different than 2021âs fall colors in spring (what were they thinking?). Â It seems the main color will be a beautiful shade of Periwinkle called Veri Perri. This market trip will be my third trip since we started TBF in 2017 and I cannot wait to see what this Pantone Color Pallet will show within 2022 trends.
Stay Tuned!
